This assignment was difficult for me! I picked such a broad topic, it was difficult to decide what to narrow in on and present to the class. It was a gift and a curse that there was so much information available.
Overall I learned that permutations and combinations have been studied for a very long time all across the world. I liked learning about how global the study was, and what each region was working on. I also thought it was so interesting to see the traditional background and motivations for these problems. For instance the I-Ching and the Jewish problem that I presented on. Both of these had spiritual origins, which I found interesting.
I was surprised at how much people knew that long ago. When I discovered all the formulas that were known in ancient India I was very impressed.
